Beach, sea, sun: which care to use for dry hair

This summer, we think of his hair before it gets too heated and lightened by the sun! And we review our hair routine during the holidays with these 4 treatments …
Nothing worse for the hair fiber than the sun which burns, the salt which dehydrates, the chlorinewhich washes out and the sand which unpolishes, explain all the specialists. To keep hair always silky, it is better to protect it with each exposure with formulas boosted in solar filters and sips of butters, waxes and vegetable oils which will act as real anti-dryness shields. And, after the beach (or the swimming pool), their benefits will be prolonged with a shampoo and a mask – or a leave-in balm – rich in essential fatty acids (based on shea, argan, jojoba, coconut, monoï …) responsible for softening and restructuring. On a case-by-case basis, here are our solutions …
A mist that plumps up flat hair
On thin hair, it is above all the heat that softens the lengths. As soon as the temperature rises, the scalp sweats more and produces more sebum. The roots quickly become oily, which gives a somewhat dull effect to the hairstyle.
The right ritual
On the protection side, we must choose mist texturesor in spray. Much lighter than an oil, they cover without weighing down, especially if they are crumpled on the lengths to provide more loft. When returning from the beach, we do not especially skip the shampoo: in addition to cleaning the fiber of the sand and salt that can seal the lengths, it especially allows to ventilate and restore volume to the hairstyle. It is better, however, not to massage the scalp too much to avoid stimulating seborrhea. Rinse thoroughly with cool water, which tones the fiber.
Be careful especially to choose your formula: as simple as possible, and preferably silicone free, nor overabundance of nourishing active ingredients, which would unnecessarily overload the lengths. We prefer textures that are as transparent as possible, a sign that they only contain washing agents. To prolong the toning effect of the shampoo, we dry with the breath of the hair dryer, at the tips and directed upwards in order to take off the roots and to increase the volume.

A nourishing cream for curly hair
While it looks solid to the naked eye, curly hair is however more fragile, less elastic. “Burnt” by the sun and dehydrated by the salt, it appears, in summer, more foamy to the touch, almost rough. Frosted by the sand and tangled by the wind, the curls are also more difficult to comb.
The right ritual
To keep beautiful waves, protect them with each exposure with a cream formula. Lighter than an oil and easy to shape, it will not break the curls, especially if used as a styling for draw a nice movement.
Back from the beach, we continue to soften the material using a vegetable oil (sesame, almond, camellia …), applied pure and as a poultice before shampooing, for at least 30 minutes. We avoid the roots, but we mass it much higher than the points, to prevent the state of dryness from going up along the fiber. And we do not hesitate to renew the application in order to saturate the hair with lipids and without fear of weighing down the curls, because the shampoo will then allow the hair to be ventilated. Then we use a detangling care in order to better eliminate knots before styling.

A protective oil for straightened hair
The smoothing formulaschemically lift the scales and act, as in coloring, into the cortex of the hair. A process that can drain the hair of its substance, making it drier and duller. Whatever technique you choose, in summer the already overworked fiber will tend to become more porous and brittle. Especially if you also use styling products filled with silicones or fixing agents that choke the fiber.
The right ritual
On the beach, we focus on rich and “heavy” textures (oil or cream) and on anti-frizz active ingredients which will, as a bonus, prevent the hair from becoming foamy under the effect of water and wind. It is also better to avoid wetting your straightened hair, because with the salt of the water, the straightening would be ruined! You can also take advantage of the holidays to put your hair to rest by letting it dry naturally, without brushing it, or forcing it with heating devices (straightener or dryer) which would damage it more. A new reflex that allows the fiber to breathe and the movement to take shape in a more spontaneous way.

A soothing treatment for irritated scalp
The sun which heats up, the chlorine of the swimming pool which irritates, the salt which accentuates the itching … All these summer attacks weaken the hydrolipidic film of the scalp and titillate the many receptors present in this ultra-vascularized zone (up to 600 nerve endings per cm2).
The right ritual
To soothe unpleasant irritations after the beach or swimming pool, it is important to first rinse your scalp well with cool water for at least three minutes. Then, you can bet on serums, shampoos or masks based on refreshing ingredients (essential oils of eucalyptus or peppermint with an immediate ice cube effect). Formulas that often contain anti-irritant active ingredients such as willow extract or zinc gluconate, capable of reducing itching by acting directly on the scalp receptors. And since nothing serves to calm without also providing hydration, these treatments also contain emollients (moisturizers), responsible for protecting the hydrolipidic film and strengthening the natural defenses of the epidermis. As with sensitive skin, it is better avoiding any ingredient that could irritate the scalp : alcohol, dyes, preservatives or perfume, but also sulphated surfactants (washing agents) too detergents. And to reduce the reactivity threshold, we protect ourselves by not going out without a hat, scarf or swimming cap.

On the beach, we use an oil to sheathe, shine and protect, but we must also bet on shampoos and masks with an acid pH, whose targeted assets allow better anchoring of the pigments, channeling bad reflections and offering a radiance supplement (Le Petit Marseillais color-treated hair color shine shampoo; Botanicals fresh care radiance remedy geranium mask, L’Oréal Paris).
